Multiple Wordpress Categories

The sidebar widget that I installed yesterday seems pretty rad so far but I still haven’t configured the sidebar of my project blog the way I want it. Apologies for not providing a link to the blog in question but it’s top secret and confidential blah blah blah. That’s not even to mention it looks like a bucket of crap and is not fit for human (or robot) consumption just yet.
Righty-oh, the problem I’ve got is that I want to have more than one categories widget on my sidebar. This is so I can tag individual posts with items from category A and category B. It’s likely that an any post could be included in many instances of Category A but will only ever have one Category B property <<Edit: What a load of crap, each article will need to be associated with multiple A’s and B’s - I’m still figuring this stuff out…>> . That doesn’t even make sense to me so I’m not sure if you, the random surfer, will have much chance of understanding it. Nevertheless, I maintain to this point that I only have one reader and that’s yours truly, the honorable Joe O’Brien.
So far, I’ve thought up the following possible solutions but I can already think of a couple of reasons why these won’t work;
- Insert a Text widget and manually insert HTML links to the items I want to include in my hypothetical Category B, this method is essentially the same as the next option but a lot messier;
- Insert a Pages widget and create static pages for the items I want;
- The problem with these options is that I won’t be able to tag my articles as belonging to Category B
- I could just include my Category B’s in the Categories widget;
- This seems like a goer as I could have “Category B” as a parent category and then include the items I want as children.
- The only problem is that I might not be able to keep these categories separate as I wanted to. From a functional perspective, I can still describe each article with A’s and B’s.
If it’s at all possible, I’d like to be able to break up my categories such that I can have two headlines/titles describing the two distinct categories. I guess I’ll have to press on with the latter option and try to overcome the stated problem.
I’ve never really blogged before but I’m starting to enjoying it. I’m not surprised that writing down my thoughts helps me to work through my problems. I’ve been a big fan of the pad and pen for journalising my ideas but it seems that by writing for an actual audience (even an audience of one) is great way to clarify my thoughts. I still believe the best way of developing ideas and working through problems is to openly talk about it (I like to call it verbalising) with another human being. Even if the other person isn’t following (or listening at all) it still helps to get your ideas out in the open. The trouble with that, though, is unless you’re recording everything you have to keep scrambling down notes on paper.
What a load of waffle. I’ll write another post later in the day once I’ve implented the proposed solution to my categories problem and subsequently encountered the newest barrier to getting my blog working the way I want it to.
